New guidelines about alcohol consumption

Drinking less is better says new guidance replacing 2011 Canadian guidelines.

Consuming no drinks per week is the only safe option in pregnancy and will have health benefits such as better sleep.

Consuming one or two standard drinks per week will likely not have alcohol related consequences.

3 drinks to 6 drinks raises the risk of colon, breast and other cancers.

7 or more drinks raises the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Consuming more than 2 standard drinks per drinking session is associated with an increased risk of harm to self and others.

Young people should delay alcohol use for as long as possible.
