Inhalant Allergies Testing with Skin Pricks
Could Allergies Be Causing Your Sinus or Breathing Problems?
If you’re struggling with ongoing sinus problems, a blocked or runny nose, sneezing, itchy eyes or recurring respiratory symptoms, environmental allergies may be contributing. Dr Wendy Dicks offers a focused allergy assessment to help identify possible triggers and determine whether
your symptoms are more likely to be allergy-related rather than repeated infections.
Simple skin-prick testing can be performed during your consultation, with results available in approximately 15 minutes, helping you leave with a clearer understanding of your triggers and an appropriate treatment plan.
Testing is available for common environmental inhalant allergens, including grass pollens, moulds, house-dust mites, feathers, cat dander and dog dander. Patients can choose a few targeted allergens or a more comprehensive inhalant panel depending on their symptoms and history.
Skin-prick testing costs R60 per allergen tested, in addition to the consultation fee of R720.
Where an inhalant allergy is identified, Dr Wendy can recommend and prescribe appropriate treatment for allergic rhinitis, sinus symptoms and asthma. Where clinically appropriate, allergen immunotherapy can also be arranged or prescribed.
Please note:
Dr Wendy does not currently test for or treat food allergies, drug or medication allergies, or urticaria (hives). Patients requiring assessment for these conditions should consult an appropriate allergy specialist or specialist allergy service, such as the UCT Lung Institute.
Dr Wendy’s allergy service is specifically focused on helping patients identify and manage environmental inhalant allergies.
